Art, Autism & Our Vision

Another Way to Express. Another Way to Connect.

Art has been an important part of the vision behind ACESO from the beginning.

For some children, particularly children who experience communication or sensory differences, creative activities can provide additional opportunities for expression, exploration, engagement, and connection.

At ACESO, art is not presented as a replacement for ABA therapy or other clinical services.

Instead, creativity can become part of a rich and supportive developmental environment.

Creative experiences

When appropriate and consistent with a child's individualized clinical goals, creative experiences may provide opportunities to practice skills such as:

  • Communication
  • Choice-making
  • Attention and engagement
  • Fine motor skills
  • Following directions
  • Flexibility
  • Social interaction
  • Self-expression
  • Sensory exploration
  • A child in a blue art smock holding a foam paintbrush in front of an easel marked with pink brushstrokes
  • A child's hand guiding a fine brush across a large canvas painted with bright flowers and fruit
  • A child seated at a wooden easel outdoors under a tree, drawing on a sheet of paper

This philosophy reflects the founder's longstanding work at the intersection of children, education, and art.
